Why is my attachment opening in the browser window?
We’re not really sure why–but we have a workaround! Sometimes when the name of the file you are attaching is too long, the attachment will open in the browser window, instead of in Adobe Acrobat (or whatever program you use). Even more annoying, sometimes the back arrow disappears and there’s no way to go back to RiskManager.net. Incidentally, this seems to happen only in Internet Explorer and not in Mozilla Firefox.
To prevent this from happening, save the file you want to attach with a shorter name. There is no hard and fast rule about the length of the file name. Two files with the same file name length can behave differently. So, just try shortening the name and attaching the file again.
What are the advantages of adding a document as text?
Adding a document as text–that is, in the body section of the document–has a few advantages over adding it as an attachment.
The text is accessible to the search feature in RiskManager.net
The text can be viewed and printed without opening an attachment.
It can be printed from the document view.
In some cases, you will want to add a document both as text and as an attachment to reap the benefits of both.
What are the advantages of adding a document as an attachment?
The primary advantage of adding a document as an attachment is that you can add any kind of file. You are not limited to text. You can add a pdf, an MS EXCEL or MS WORD file, even an audio or video file. For some types of documents, forms or diagrams, for example, adding the document as an attachment is the only option you have.
To view or print a document added as an attachment, you have to open the attachment. Also text within the attachment is not accessible to the search feature in RiskManager.net. However, for a text-only document, you can add it both as text and as an attachment and reap the benefits of both.
