The Hospital Future Fund: Funding for IT Security
Cybersecurity affects everyone. But IT security is particularly sensitive in the medical sector. Driving the digitalisation of hospitals while protecting patients and IT infrastructures is a challenge.
With the Hospital Future Fund, the Federal Government is investing up to 4.3 billion Euros in projects that create secure solutions for digital infrastructures. Hospitals that do not belong to critical infrastructures according to the requirements of the BSI can also benefit.
But in order to be eligible for funding for digitisation projects, applicants need to consider a few things.
One requirement relates to the project’s IT service providers. The Federal Social Security Office (BAS) assigns them a special role. For example, the Hospital Structural Fund Ordinance (KHSFV) imposes as a condition for eligibility criteria 2 to 6 and 8 and 10 that only certified IT service providers may be commissioned. IT companies whose senior IT staff have completed training for eligible projects are demonstrably qualified.
IT security is given a high priority in the context of digitisation projects in hospitals. This is reflected in a second condition. According to the BAS, at least 15 percent of the funding should be used to improve IT security. Cybersecurity measures that build up in particular are considered eligible for funding. vise you on this.
